Amazon S3 is a robust hosted storage offering from Amazon.com. Anyone can sign up for free, and Amazon charges $additional_info$.15 per GB per month for storage, with no signup fees and no minimum charges. Bandwidth charges are extra, but Uploads to S3 are free through June 2010. (Full price list here).

Amazon stores your files in 5 redundant locations around the US, so your files are very safe and uploading/downloading is very fast.

The S3 approach offers verifiable privacy -- you can verify the files in your S3 account are encrypted. Mozy, Carbonite and Backblaze make claims of privacy, but there's no way to verify them since you have no control over the backup data in their data centers.
