New Winds was an American trio of Ned Rothenberg ((alto saxophone, bass clarinet, shakuhachi, ocarina), Robert Dick (flute, bass flute, piccolo) and JD Parran (clarinet, alto clarinet, soprano saxophone, contra-alto clarinet, alto flute, bamboo flute) who released several albums starting with "The Cliff" in 1986. The musicians are famous for their virtuosity and personal vocabularies of extended techniques.
